Apprenticeship Completion Award Program

The Apprenticeship Completion Award Program (ACAP) partially reimburses eligible apprentices, sponsors and employers for certain costs of related instruction. ACAP will be administered by the Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, as directed by law. BAS may reimburse the apprentice, the employer or the sponsor a maximum of $1,000 for up to 25% of the tuition, book, materials and other course fees directly associated with related instruction. The program will conclude on June 30, 2015.

The person working as an apprentice could be someone with a disability who needs this type of vocational training to secure gainful employment.

Business Development Tax Credits

The Business Development Tax Credit Program supports job creation, capital investment, training and the location or retention of corporate headquarters by providing companies with refundable tax credits that can help to reduce their Wisconsin state income tax liability or provide a refund.

More employment opportunities for workers with disabilities can be a positive outcome resulting from this provision.

Business Opportunity Loan

A business must create new full-time positions and/or retain its existing full-time employment base in Wisconsin to qualify for Business Opportunity Loans. Loan requests under $200,000 will be referred to the appropriate local or regional revolving loan fund first.

Some of the jobs created or retained as a result of this loan could be occupied by employees who have disabilities.

Development Opportunities Zone Tax Credit

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) provides non-refundable tax credits through the Development Opportunity Zone program to incent new and expanding businesses in the Cities of Beloit, Janesville and Kenosha.

Development Opportunity Zone tax credits may be earned through job creation, job retention and capital investment.

This tax credit could mean more employment opportunities for the residents of Beloit, Janesville and Kenosha, including those who have disabilities.

Their specialists understand how disabilities impact computer users and are trained to evaluate the needs of the person with the disability. Some centers offer computer training and many organizations have lending libraries, so a consumer can try a product before purchasing it.

On-the-Job Training

On-the-job training is an individualized training program conducted at the actual work site where a job applicant receives specific training required to secure employment. 50% of the salary and fringe expenses of a DVR candidate hired by a company will be covered by DVR for up to 90 days.

Training Grants

Wisconsin provides Training Grants to assist businesses with workforce retention and expansion into new markets and technology. The program provides grant funds to businesses to upgrade or improve the job-related skills of its full-time employees. Grant funds may be approved for eligible training and provided to existing and new employees in full-time positions.

The workers who benefit from this training may be those who are disabled and need a skills upgrade to remain employed and advance in their careers.

WisTech is Wisconsin's assistive technology program funded under the AT Act of 1998, as amended (exit DHS). It provides information on selecting, funding, installing and using assistive technology.

Assistive technology (AT) is any product or device that enables people with disabilities to improve their independence and quality of life in the community, at home, at work, and at school.
