Apprenticeship System
Apprenticeship is a proven strategy that combines on-the-job training with related theoretical and practical classroom instruction to prepare exceptional workers for Arizona’s industry. Registered apprenticeship is a training system that produces highly skilled workers that meet the demands of employers competing in a global economy.
Private and public sectors – individual employers, employer associations or joint labor/management sponsors, operate registered apprenticeship programs. Program sponsors pay most of the training costs while also paying progressively increasing wages to apprentices as they gain skills. Registered apprenticeship programs can be competency based or time based depending on program sponsor needs.
The person hired as the apprentice could be someone with a disability who needs specialized on-the-job training to obtain employment.
The following document has additional information on the Apprenticeship program.
Arizona Technology Access Program (AZTAP)
Assistive technology is any device that enables a person with a disability
to be more functional. Using the proper technology at work will allow a disabled
person to be more productive, and in turn, a better worker.
The mission of Arizona Technology Access Program is
to promote awareness, access and the acquisition of assistive technology
for people with disabilities.
Assistive Technology Loans
The following websites have information on affordable loans for people with disabilities to purchase assistive technology. These loans are targeted to people with low to medium incomes or anyone who may not qualify for a loan due to bad credit.

Employment Support Services
The purpose of the Employment Support Services Program is to assist individuals with severe disabilities to maintain successful employment.
Enterprise Zone Program
The primary goal of the Arizona Enterprise Zone program is to improve the economies of areas in the state with high poverty and/or unemployment rates. The program does this by enhancing opportunities for private investment in certain areas that are called enterprise zones. The program offers two types of benefits: income or premium tax credits and property tax reduction.
Very often, people with disabilities live in areas that are economically depressed and in need of revitalization. Hiring disabled individuals from these zones would reverse the unemployment trend among this population and give their neighborhoods a much needed lift.
Financing Your Business
The document below provides information for Financial Options and Funding Sources to finance your business in the state of Arizona.
Job Training Program
The Arizona Job Training Program supports the design and delivery of training plans that meet unique industry standards and challenges. Under the “Net New Hire” portion of the grant program, businesses can apply for grants that return up to 75% of the costs of training net new employees in jobs that meet wage criteria. The “Incumbent Worker” portion of the grant program will allow for training that upgrades the skills of your existing employees. The Incumbent Program can reimburse employers up to a maximum of 50% of allowable training costs.
Employees who receive training can be workers with disabilities who sometimes need a skills upgrade to obtain employment or advance in their careers.

Preventive Ergonomics
Ergonomics is the study of how a workplace and the equipment used there can best be designed for comfort, efficiency, safety and productivity. Having a sound ergonomically designed workstation along with the proper assistive technology will allow a worker with a disability to be a more industrious employee.

Vocational Rehabilitation
The Vision for the Vocational Rehabilitation program is persons with disabilities becoming and maintaining economic independence and decreasing or eliminating their need for ongoing government supports through integrated, meaningful, and sustained work.
Workforce Connection
Arizona Workforce Connection is a statewide system of workforce development partners – providing free services to employers who seek access to skilled new hires or existing worker training resources. A business can use the services offered through the Arizona Workforce Connection to hire or retain employees with disabilities.
